The Safety Zone |
An essential ingredient for power quality is a proper surge protective
device. This device can  eliminate
harmful over-voltages before they can damage the equipment. The appropriate
selection of SPDs (Surge-Protective Devices) is shrouded in mystery for many
electrical industry people. Occasionally an improperly applied device can
burst into flames when subjected to an over-voltage.
Safety agencies have changed the standards to simplify the selection for
safe SPD application. Both the National Electrical Code and the SPD standard
UL 1449 were changed to increase safety. The 2008 NEC changed their SPD
section and already about 20 states have adopted this version. The
UL 1449 standard was changed to the Third Edition with an effective date of

With the Thomas & Betts Color-Keyed Battpac  LT
6-ton compression tool and die sets, you won’t have to worry about downtime
on the jobsite because you don't have the proper size crimp die. This
compression tool comes with a full complement of 16 TBM series dies for
crimping lugs and splices from 8 AWG to 500 kcmil copper and 10 AWG to 350
kcmil aluminum. For even greater versatility, this same tool also accepts
Color-Keyed 6-ton series and Blackburn O and D series crimp dies (adapter
required for the latter). The open-yoke design provides maximum crimping
flexibility, while the double-speed feature maximizes efficiency by doubling
jaw speed until it reaches load capacity. The Ni-MH battery yields about 200
crimps (based on 3/0 AWG) per charge.
